Observations and Boxes…

I could claim that I did it because I’m feeling “green” these days or because I’m pinching pennies… but neither of those are really too true. Today, I used a bike that was gathering dust in the garage of my childhood home to run my errands. I did it because I wanted the exercise, because I wanted to enjoy the beautiful summer day and because, even though I’m not really pinching pennies… I don’t want to pay the silly rates gas is going for these days.

My errand-run took me all over town, but not once did I see another cyclist. Guess not too many others are truly feeling “green” or pinching pennies either. I did see a lot of quizzical stares though, especially at the bank. I’m sure the tellers were wondering why a sweaty woman in workout clothes who rode a bike to the bank was depositing… well, let’s just say a sizable amount of money. Ha… sizable to me at least! It was enough to get some funny stares and for them to check my i.d. I’ve never had a teller ask me for an i.d. while depositing a check with a deposit slip. That’s what you get for being a “green” phony. Really, I’m just an exercise phobe. Before, though, I would always pay for a gym membership, drive to the gym and do my errands along the way. Now, I save on the membership fee, save on the gas, save on the car mileage and maintenance and still get in my errands and my workout. Sound like a good deal to me!

On a totally different topic, I just realized I’m way overdue for relocating where I’m storing my stuff. So, if anyone local is reading this and has some big boxes to spare, please let me know! I’ll be UHauling some stuff next week!

And skipping back to “green” and “cycling”… I just did a google search for “green cycling” to see if I could find a funny image that I could slap up with this post. What I found was greencycling.com. It’s a site about these two girls who cycled across the U.S. just after graduating from college, raising money for Greenpeace along the way. And they are the two girls whose pic I decided to slap up on this post. They did the trip back in 2006, but their story has got me inspired. I keep talking about wanting to do the exact same thing, but haven’t done anything about it yet. Well, I’m going to start doing. It’s time to put the pieces together on this one. I have faith in the aim and the goal… so stay tuned! ; )
