Mind Scraps: The Eyes of My Heart

Feeling drained the other day, I shared a bit of my less than ‘rico’ sentiments to the Pillar. Once again, his remarkably humbling eloquence gave me the lift I needed.

Well, as I believe I told you one time, I believe I can look into a person’s eyes and see their soul, see into the depths of who they are. And, though in your case the eyes were on a screen, there is a soul there with so much depth and passion and talent and, more importantly, genuineness. But when you are operating at such searing intensity, so often, a valley may occasionally creep in.

Then, another message he simply felt inspired to send:

Wanted to comment on that picture of you that was posted today, the one where your eyes are more azure than any sea in the Mediterranean. Only one other time in my life can I recall seeing eyes remotely similar, eyes unique not only for their color, but for their ability to convey an entire range of genuine emotion in a split second. That is another story I have for you. The list grows long. Thanks for sharing tonight. It is a strong connection we have built over all these miles.

I’m eager to hear his stories. The Pillar wants me to cover the burro race in Colorado this August. I’m intrigued. Caballo Blanco, from the Copper Canyon, will be there. Many other stories the Pillar wants to tell, about his brother, about Bosnia. I want to listen. Let’s see how the next few months play out…

Another quote I just read in Sacred Journey of the Peaceful Warrior says everything I would hope to convey in response to the Pillar’s moving words:

“I’m glad I waited until I could see with the eyes of my heart.”

That’s what I want… ‘to see with the eyes of my heart.’
