Mind Scraps: Powerful Words from the Pillar

The world is growing smaller. Technology is enabling humanity to make a grand transformation, but the world is still deciding just what kind of transformation. We, as the collective human consciousness, have the choice to either reach a more heightened level of enlightenment or allow our existence to fade, like a candle reaching the end of its wick. I believe the former will pass.

I feel inspired to start writing about themes occurring in my life, that – until now – I’ve been skirting around in my commentaries. Until now, I’ve only been sharing them on a face-to-face basis, with people I felt would understand. Now, I want to start sharing openly, with anyone willing to embrace it. I want to start writing the book of my strange and challenging, yet extremely magical life. But write it here, in this blog, as I live it. The whole story. Even the crazy parts: Where I think crazy things. And people tell me even crazier things. A living book so-to-speak. Thinking La Locura Rica (The Enchanted Craziness) is a fitting name. Right now, I’m struggling to find time to start it properly as life seems to be happening at warp speed – Mach 5 as an old friend and I used to joke.

For now, I just want to share some powerful words from a man I’m going to call the Pillar. Because I am going to be sharing very intimate details about me and others, I’m going to start changing names. We have names given to us at birth, but throughout life we become what we truly are… and, the truth is, that identity is something that is always transforming. Moreover, that identity is never fixed. At any given moment, we can be different things for different people. The Pillar found me on Facebook. I’ve never met him. But, because of my involvement in covering this year’s 2010 Copper Canyon Ultra Marathon, he found me. He’s not the first to find me on Facebook, but he has become a contact with whom I have begun having deeper, spiritual exchanges. I call him the Pillar because each time I get a message from him I am blasted with a strong charge of encouragement, strength, support. Amazing isn’t it? To have a truly profound sensation of support coming from someone I’ve never met in person, through Facebook. This world is truly bewitching. He’s certainly not the only pillar in my life. I have much to share… but for some reason I feel compelled to start here, with him. And for lack of much time, I’m simply going to paste a collection of quotes from messages I’ve been receiving from him. The experiences of life are often messy and unorganized. This “blog book” will reflect that. While sometimes I’ll be able to organize my thoughts into stories… I imagine most of the time I’ll simply be able to toss up some frenzied scraps as I struggle to live the magic and write the magic at the same time.

I’ve already lost many of the moving messages from the Pillar, but the following are some scraps I managed to salvage:

“Hi Laura. I just wanted to thank you again for the beautiful photos of the Tarahumara. My parents moved to Torreon, Coahuila in the sixites and took me and my two brothers. We lived there for tres anos (three years). Though I was young then, I still recall the wonderful spirit of the people we lived among. Your pictures captured that spirit. My mom can recall the Tarahumara quite well, as she ran into them on her travels. Thanks again for the pictures and let me know if you ever want to cover a pack burro race.”

“Como estas hoy (how are you today), Laura. It looks like a new adventure in Mexico every day for you. How long will you be staying there? What is next on your agenda? The musical that you are in as you dance through life is bound to be a hit. Bueno suerte (good luck)!!”

“How is everything in your parallel universe tonight? You do, by the way, do tremendous justice to the art of expression. You can pack a ton of emotion and convey so much with just a few words. With both the camera and your pen, you are an artist in the most literal sense.”

“Each of us has a current of white hot lava flowing latent in our emotional subconscious. As we go through life, we encounter someone who inspires passion and ignites that cauldron. These are high-voltage periods in life, times when we are truly living.”
