Well I couldn’t have imagined a more precious cause for everyone’s donation. Part of the donation will go towards the transportation and small medical costs necessary for a 7-month-old Chortí infant to receive heart surgery. Through Samaritan’s Purse, the expensive operation will cost just 1,000 Lempiras, or about $50, for this Chortí child who suffers from difficulty in breathing.
The donation will also help fund new stoves and stove pipes for many Chortí families who live in small huts no bigger than some people’s closets. Families who don’t have improved stoves and stove pipes suffer from smoke inhalation. Billy says the smoke Chortí children are exposed to in their homes is the equivalent to amount they would inhale from smoking 3 packs of cigarettes a day. Click here read one of my previous posts for more information about the Chortí huts and the improved stove project.
Billy and Mary expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the donation and said it’s one of the biggest personal donations they’ve received. With your donation and my donation combined… we raised more than $1,000 for the Chortí!! Way to go everyone!! Thanks so much for all your support! Feel free to comment…
