Jewels and Windows

This weekend just gets better and better! I already mentioned my plans to attend Spelling Bee at the Fox on Sunday. Now, Saturday is shaping up to be pretty dazzling as well. First, I’m planning on doing some work for Habitat for Humanity through the Crossing Church in Columbia. But I’ll have to jet early for a wedding. The wedding is being held at the Jewel Box in Forest Park – just newly renovated. The reception will be at Windows on Washington. Both places have quite the reputation! Not to mention the best part… I finally get to catch up with Jeany and congratulate her in person on her pregnancy!

Meet Me in St. Louie, Louie… Meet Me At The Fair…

…Looks like I’m going to be your local correspondent at the fair. But, it won’t be St. Louie for the 1904 World’s Fair. It’ll be Sedalia for the 2007 State Fair. The details are still being worked out, but it looks like I’ll be previewing the Fair by updating a website/blog with posts and podcasts about the various entertainers and events scheduled for the fair for the eight weeks prior. Then, I will provide constant live updates from the fair for its eleven day duration. Basically, just going out, having a good time, talking to other fairgoers, contestants, etc… and telling you all about it! Sounds like a great deal to me!

A Fox Affair…

A friend has offered me a free ticket to go see Spelling Bee at the Fox. I’m pretty excited because, as ridiculous as this is, I’ve never seen a production at the Fox. I’ve lived just a short jog away for most of my life and I have never been to The Fabulous Fox!

I’m A Christian…

“I’m A Christian”
by Maya Angelou

When I say … “I am a Christian,”
I’m not shouting “I’m clean livin’.
I’m whispering “I was lost,
Now I’m found and forgiven.”

When I say …”I am a Christian,”
I don’t speak of this with pride.
I’m confessing that I stumble,
And need CHRIST to be my guide.

When I say … “I am a Christian,”
I’m not trying to be strong.
I’m professing that I’m weak,
And need HIS strength to carry on.

When I say … “I am a Christian,”
I’m not bragging of success.
I’m admitting I have failed,
And need God to clean my mess.

When I say … “I am a Christian,”
I’m not claiming to be perfect.
My flaws are far too visible,
But God believes I am worth it.

When I say … “I am a Christian,”
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches,
So I call upon His name.

When I say … “I am a Christian,”
I’m not holier than thou.
I’m just a simple sinner
Who received God’s good grace somehow.

There’s plenty more where that came from. This woman is full of insight, inspiration and emotion. Here’s another Angelou poem courtesy of mkimimi on youtube:

Mach 6

So much has happened lately. One life experience slamming into the next:

My grandmother died. Doris McNamara would have been 81 this August. I can’t help but think she is now finally relieved from her discomfort, which grew with her age these past years. I know my grandfather, my dad, James, Susanne, and Maureen are all struggling with her absence. I’ve kept them all in my prayers. The funeral was a small one in a quiet town outside of Kansas City. I did have fun catching up with all my young, beautiful cousins. They all play soccer! I’m so proud!

I checked off another life goal… an’ I owned that mechanical bull!! Hahaha. I rode that sucker three times, and I can assure you “I done good. Real good.” ; )

My days at Learfield are now numbered. All I have to say is, it’s time for me to refocus and go after my dreams with renewed vigor. My farewell is a sweet one… I have learned and earned some invaluable assets from time spent at the Missourinet.

Looks like I’ll be signing on to a new free lance reporting deal. I’m eager to get started! Details to come.

I’m signed up for Habitat for Humanity May 19th. I’m pretty excited about this too!

My next goal: enroll in school or jet.

The footwork… I only wish…
Barcelona’s Lionel Messi is untouchable in this excellent goal against Getafe. They’re comparing the 19-year-old kid to Maradona.

The Power of the Gospel

Check out Ben Harper’s “Power of the Gospel”. It’s an incredibly beautiful song. There’s an acoustic intro on the version I have. That intro is not included in the video below. But a friend described the intro: “sounds like something you would hear if you were watching a foreign love film and the man is watching his one and only love walk away, leaving him and she keeps looking over her shoulder at him with is head down, crying in his sorrow…….” Enough said. This video is just a portion of the song and an interview.

The Faces…

This man is just one of the 32 victims who lost their lives during the shooting spree at Virginia Tech. He was a Holocaust survivor who unflinchingly gave up his life for his students, here in the U.S. Incredible. Just incredible. He held clout in the international community for his work as an aeronautical engineer. There’s no question… he is a hero. If you’d like to briefly meet more of the victims, visit this address:
